Goodbye to the Flip Flops

Once upon a time in a far away kingdom of Ammonville there lived a young girl. Now this girl was wonderful, fabulous, brilliant, funny, oops got off track any way.... One of the most anticipated seasons was approaching but there seemed to be something missing. The girl thought and thought but she couldn't figure out what was missing. There were lights in the yards, decorated trees in the houses (well some hers was not up yet), music on the radio, the friendly bell ringer at Albertsons, hot chocolate, a chill in the air, the movies, concerts full of mistletoe, and letters in the mail box. What was missing the young girl could not figure it out, so one day she decided to go outside for a moment, she grabbed her flip-flops and sweater and walked out the door, maybe she would figure it out if she went for a walk in her flip-flops. The girl walked around the block and could not figure it out, what was missing...... hmmmmm..... hmmmmmm..... She knew this couldn't be that hard so she sat to think and think..... She glanced down at her shoes and thought oh I need to wear my brown flip-flops with this outfit not the black ones and then the light came on!!!!!! She was still wearing flip flops in December that is what was missing- SNOW. Now the girl had mixed emotions about this because she loved her flip-flops and did not want to part with them; however she wanted the season to be complete so she decided that maybe just maybe if she put her flip-flops away the season would be complete. The next day she wore her flip flops for the last day and said good-bye... hoping that when she woke up the next morning there would be white stuff on the ground. The young girl went to sleep dreaming of well that is another story... the next morning she woke up and looked out the window.... and what did she see but Snow covering the ground. She was so happy that the snow had finally arrived, but then the sad sad truth hit home... socks and shoes were in season.... how sad wait we must celebrate the new snow.... so the young girl decided to go shoe shopping!!!!
THE END!
(I hope you all enjoy the season!!!)

Did you know.... according to kids....

So this weekend I had a lot of my nieces and nephews around and I learned some great things from each of them and got asked some interesting questions . I thought I would share these with you all:
1. All girls are mermaids and boys are those other things like, Flounder and the other stuff.
2. Kimi is not as tough as Ryan... sorry about that.
3. There is going to be a tickle party and only boys are invited.... sorry girls.
4. Kimi should not get married because Aly doesn't want her too. (Friday)
5. Kimi needs to get married because she is a girl (Sunday)
6. I need to get married because KaLisi and Mya need more cousins and Kimi should get married too. (Told to me in the middle of Sacrament Meeting using their not so inside voices.)
7. Kevin should not get married because boys like girls and girls like boys, but Kevin is a boy so he needs to wait to get married (still don't understand this one.)
8. Is Santa married and if so did he get married in the temple?
9. Why did I move out of my house, did Grandma and Grandpa miss me so I needed to come home?
10. When am I going to move back because this is Grandma and Grandpa's house, not mine?
11. Girls like boys and boys like girls it is just that simple!
12. If you don't like your name change it to a color, it is quite hilarious... I am Blue Jennifer.... Yellow Aly, Pink Mommy, Purple KaLisi, etc.
13. Not getting your nails painted before going into public is the end of the world.
14. Shoe shopping should be done each day and a girl can never have enough shoes.
15. The mall is for playing on the toys, riding the escalator, getting gum balls, and trying on dresses. Nothing else.
16. Taking a nap is important because then you can play later at night.
17. Running around the house at night is scary when it is dark.
18. Girls are beautiful and gorgeous. boys are handsome!
19. Candy is a food group
20. Snacks are not meant to be healthy, it is another way to say I want chocolate.
21. Crying does not mean I am tired, it means I want what I want, hello!!!!
22. Playing barbies makes everything all right in the world.
23. If you can't find a husband on your own then never fear KaLisi and Mya will help you out!!!
24. When you love someone, you walk up to them, give them a hug, and say I love you!
As you can see it was a wonderful weekend and I learned lots of things. You gotta love kids and their directness. I will continue to enlighten you all as I am enlightened this holiday season!!!

Gratitude

I can't believe today is the last day of November. This month has flown by and when I wake up in the morning it will be gone. Crazy how that works, indeed. Well, being that it is the month of November I wanted to write a little a bit about what I am thankful for. I am thankful for my family because I have to admit they are the best and I love the holidays because there are all these children running around, life is crazy, you don't get any sleep, you sleep with your someone on your head, and wake up to little people (and sometimes big people-- you know who you are) jumping on you. Life doesn't get much better than this I have to say. So obviously I am grateful for all the little moments in my life. I am grateful for my friends because they are the best. They love me for me and are part of my fan club, it is great. I am grateful for the Church and the truths that come with the Church. I am grateful for my parents (yes they are part of my family but deserve a side note) because they are wonderful to put up with me a lot and love in spite of my whims in life. I am grateful for the truths of kids because they say it how it is and love you with all their hearts. I hope that I will be grateful all year long not just this season for all the wonderful people in my life and for my Savior who gave everything for my life.

Aida and the Carpenters

So last weekend I went on a little road trip with my fabtabulous friends to a play down in Orem call Aida. It was a lot of fun. We chatted all the way down, stopped for lunch in Farr West, and then went to the play. What is interesting about this play is that as I am watching it, I keep thinking to myself... do I really want them to get together or not. Ok, so if you don't know the story (which I did not before last weekend) there is this Egyptian princess who is engaged to this Captain of a boat for like nine years and on his last voyage he captures this women (who turns out to be a princess of the neighboring country that Egypt is at war with) any way and of course He falls in love with the girl, but there are complications (always!) and so you don't know if he will drop the Egyptian princess for the other princess. Funny twist the two princesses become friends even though the one doesn't know the other is a princess. So what happens... well that is the interesting part, you don't know quite how it will get resolved until it does, but the whole time I am watching this I am thinking who do I want him to end up with.... the girl he is madly in love with now or the girl who he has loved his whole life (I know this because he states it in the play)....... ? Is the one a fleeting feeling or is it true.... a very interesting and thought provoking play. Of course I know everyone that reads this will be like it is just a play don't read into it, but you know plays are about life, our lives, so it is interesting to think about.

Ok so the point of my blog today was not on the woes of love or analyzing this but to tell about my fun road trip. After the play we drove to PF Changs for dinner. (Side note we analyzed the play in the car on the way there.....) We had lots of fun and ate lots of good food. I am so glad I went. The car ride home was lots of fun especially since we were all tired and thank you Jeanna for getting us all home safely and not falling asleep. The rest of us all deny that we were sleeping but deep down we know we fell asleep at least once or maybe twice. We listened to music and are now experts on the Carpenters.. they will forever hold a "special" place in my heart. You girls are the best... you know who you are. Top of the World looking down on creation and the only explanation that I have........

Friends, Family, and Voting!!!

I haven't written much lately for many reasons, the main one being I have not taken the time to do so.... I have thought about writing a lot, but never done it because I wonder what to write. So here is the update on my life. I went to a BYU game the same weekend I flew in from Boston and it was tons of fun hanging out with my friends. BYU won, which was a plus, but the team has struggled some since then... but they are still in the top 25 so that is good. I have done lots of fun things with my friends: birthday parties, politic discussions, mortgage discussions, Gadiaton (spelling? )Robbers (you know who you are and the sign), spook allies, scary costumes, long chats on the phone, facebook conversations and new names given to some. It has been a fun month I have to admit. I also have been with my family too a lot: sleepovers, watching movies late into the night all in one bed, politic discussion, Panda Express, I don't get guys talks, I don't get girls talks (my brother), Christmas drawings, and the latest Halloween. We had a Halloween party (the day after) and it was so much fun. We had a fish pond, bean bag toss, cupcake walk, dressed up and the biggest hit a donut on a string eating contest. This tested our true skills and I wish I had the pictures because it was hilarious. It was a great night ending with a game of Rook (I think Ryan won...I don't remember it was too late) and 8 out of 10 kids falling asleep before it was all over. Yes my friends it has been a great month. Oh, yes I even worked a little as a sub and decided that I like it ok, although I think I would like my own classroom better because being a sub thus far I don't really get to teach and I never know what is going to happen. I like spontaneity and going with the flow, but I am not sure if I am cut out for this, any way. I hope you all enjoy my little note on life over the last month. I wish I had pictures but I don't this time.... so use your imagination. And last but not least remember to vote today... it is election day! The future is in our hands and it is up to us to exercise our right and VOTE!!! I will write more on some issues at a future date!

Need I say more....

The frog says it all my friends!!! What to do, what to do? I took another adventure yesterday to Utah for a job interview... and I am still confused as ever. Sometimes I just want to stay here and not move away and other times I want out of here as soon as possible. I don't know what to do and I am getting pretty antsy. Don't get me wrong it is great to wake up any time of the day and do whatever you want... but it is only fun for about a week or so and I have passed the fun part. I am not complaining about my situation (ok maybe a little) because I know that I put myself into the situation but like my friend at the top that is about how I feel these last few days. I guess I just need to seize the day and get on with it, the problem is I don't know what it is! So for now I guess my frog and I will continue to ponder and looking for "it" although I think his it is different from my it. You know frogs have a simple life really, they sit on Lilly pads and hop around all day looking for food, waiting to have a princess come and kiss them so they will turn back into a handsome prince.... wow where did that come from? I guess I need to stop reading those fairy tale books to my nieces or nephews.... or I guess I could go look for a frog in my exploring for a new job, the question is where are the Lilly pads?

Divine Pastry, History Sites, and the Humanities

I survived driving in Boston and I had a great time in the process. I was able to see lots of cool sites, visit Jeremy and Shayna and boys, and have a great interview. I also got to go singing or running in the rain and get soaked from head to toe. I think they must make umbrellas differently in Boston than Idaho, because mine was a little bit broken by the end of the storm. I think the local Bostonians thought I was some crazy tourist walking in the rain while they all ran for cover, of course eventually I had to seek cover because I found the most wonderful pastry place in the world..... yes my friends I found Mike's Pastry shop. Words cannot describe the yumminess of this pastry I experienced. It was recommended to me by three or more people and it was worth the rain (and slightly getting lost) to locate it. If you ever find yourself in Boston my friends this place is worth searching out and locating. (sorry I don't have a picture to show you what it looked like.) There are lots of cool things to see on the way as well so you get the experience and the yumminess all in one. Any way enough about the divine pastry, I also got to see a lot of history sights and went to the Museum of Fine Arts, so there you have it history and humanities my favorites. Here are a few pics of my trip!

Boston......

Call me crazy.... call me a gypsy......... but oh my word I am going to Boston!!! Not to move (yet) but to have an interview for a job back there. I can't believe it is real and I probably will not until I get on that plane and arrive in Boston. How exciting is this? I don't know if I can stand the next 10 days before I leave, wow!!! I am going to Boston. ( Have I driven you all crazy now.... get use to it!!!!)

The week: Kids, Belly Dancing, and Utah-- what more is there

I have to say that not having a job kinda gives you a new perspective on life, well ok more like it just gives you time to do whatever and just leave because hey you can. So last week I had a lot of fun I must say. I went to the best girl party and learned how to belly dance, actually I should rephrase I attempted to learn to belly dance... I never quite got the hip thing, at least it didn't feel like I was doing it right. It was a lot of fun and we had lots of laughs. I also watched my nieces and nephews throughout the week and all I have to say is GO PARENTS you are the best. So like I said earlier one of the best things about not having a job is that you can just decide to do things at random. I decided to go to Utah on Thursday and spend some quality time with the family there. I have to say the game of SPIT has never been so intense and taken so long oh my word... I still say I won Kimi not matter what you think.... any way we watched lots of movies, classics to be exact like: Singing in the Rain, meet Frankenstein (our new favorite, got to love those old black and white shows) and the Grimm Brothers. We also went to one of my favorite places on earth.... yes my friends I ate at Panda Express... can we please have a moment of silence for the yummy the incredible orange chicken..... divine!!! I also went on a "walk" Shauna style around Logan. Word to the wise my friends when someone says lets go on a walk make sure you know what you are getting yourself into... ten hours, nine hills, two streams, 1000 blocks, and a cold morning later I returned. (Ok I may have exaggerated a little on this but if I don't that would disappoint Sha and I don't want to disappoint my older sister). Actually I quite enjoyed our walk and then we went to the Farmer's Market and had lots of fun. The best part of the whole trip was the chats we had (of course they were about the men in our lives--- oh wait I don't have a man in my life) any way they were great and I got to play with more of my fun nephews and niece. It was beautiful and I loved the change of scenery, but back to the grind on Monday... oh wait I don't have a job..... which brings me to the next entry for my blog what do I do now with my life... Utah, DC, Idaho, New York, Boston.... so many options so little time....

Interpretations please....

Ok so there I was minding my own business just sleeping away in my nice comfortable bed having a nice relaxed dream about something or other when dun dun dun (I don't know how to spell that sound) any way "He" entered my dreams. I kindly chatted with Him to make conversation to this individual I rarely speak to when all of a sudden the scene changes and there He is holding my arm and saying hey I want to show you something. Being the kind and generous person that I am, I follow him thinking ok He will leave as soon as he shows me his "something". You know what He shows me well folks it is.... a house and a beautiful one at that. He begins to describe it and how fabulous it is going to be and asks my opinion on it and then all of a sudden HE is talking about getting married and having kids and how much he loves me......(yes you may need to reread that part) wake up, I tell myself wake up, what is He doing... then I turn to him and realise that yes folks I have feelings for Him too and well .... in my head I started yelling wake up you fool, wake up and I wake with a start... thinking what the heck was that...... So I know that many times people have dreams that are brought upon because of happenings the night before or discussions or movies or whatever... but I ask you all what does it mean when you wake up it feels undeniably real and so far-fetched that it makes you wonder if it was more of a nightmare or a dream. (Ok I will go with dream because there was nothing nightmarish about someone expressing their undying love to you). I know many will think I am reading into this dream but I am not I am just puzzled by its happenings and thinking what the heck are my dreams doing and where the heck did HE come from? I know some will wonder as they read this post whom HE is, well some things are just not allowed to be spoken of and those that all ready know..... take this secret to the grave. Why am I sharing this dream with the world, well that is easy just check out the title and let your interpretations begin.....

The State Fair..... Well ok the Blackfoot Fair

This is Shorty the horse, he doesn't look very short too me.
Friday Night I went to the amazing fabtabulous Blackfoot Fair. I went with Ryan, Kristy, and the kids and it was a lot of fun. We saw some animals-small, big, and giantar; rode some rides, and of course ate greasy food- yummy tiger ears and something new this year- Fried Candy Bars!!!
Melly and Carson on the swings. Carson, Melly, Becca, and Kristy on the helicopter ride.
Melly & Carson with the King. Becca driving away!

Out of the mouth of babes.... my hero

OK.. so sometimes in life you have those little moments that are frustrating but then the Lord sends you some humor to remind you that it is not as horrible as you might think. So here is the story, Friday I went to take Clifford (my car) to the store; we drive out of the drive way and my car does something a little funky so I stop and get out and look at my tires.... yes my friends I have a flat tire. So a few hours later I go out to my car to fix my tire with my nephew Carson and my Dad (supervisor). I get the materials out of the trunk, put the jack in its place and start getting the car up. Piece of cake right, I can do this. So the next step is to get the hub cap off the wheel so I can unscrew the bolts and take the tire off, I got that covered no problem. So I put the thing on that is suppose to loosen the bolts and nothing happens.... no movement. So I turned to Carson and said I don't think I can do this because I am not as strong as your Dad and Kimi (previous joke). He looks at me and says you look like a grown up so you must be strong. Then he tells me that never fear he is very tough, because hello boys are tougher than girls but never fear girls we are smarter than boys. (Good philosophy I think). Any way eventually with the help of my tough 5 year old nephew we get the wheel off and the spare on.... I am feeling pretty good about myself right now until I realize the spare is sticking out further than all of the other tires. I look at my Dad and he starts to laugh... yes folks I put it on backwards. I say duh, I should have known that because the air thing was against the car instead of the on the outside. My nephew had wandered away for a bit and came back to see what was taking me so long and what does he say.... Jenn you put the tire on backwards the air thing is on the wrong side with that duh attitude that I love Carson dearly for. So, there you have it folks out of the mouth of babes or 5 year old boys we learn some very basic principals: 1. If you look like a grown up than you are one. 2.Boys are tougher than girls except Aunt Kimi. 3. Girls are smarter than boys. and 4. Always put the air thing sticking out when you change your tire. You gotta love kids, I surely do and I have 10 nieces and 5 nephews to remind me everyday not to take myself so seriously... thank you to each one of you and especially to my tough 5 year old that used his muscles to change my tire.

The moth.... remember it is late at night.....

So there I was minding my own business laying on my bed reading a book because hello that is what I do now ok always; anyway I heard a funny noise and I looked to the right of me and there it was a huge moth. I could not believe how huge it was and it was actually very pretty for a moth. I put my book down for a moment (shocker yes I know) and watched it fly around my room. It went up the wall, around the ceiling, rested on these holders sticking out of the wall, and then flew right up to me and then out the door. I thought to myself that was odd so I went back to my book, which by the way is not one that I would recommend, I was bored reading it because it was the same thing over and over but I had to see how it ended.... so of course I skipped to the end and don't worry everything worked out ok. Any way back to my moth, after it flew out of my room it came back to check on me and flew around again and perched itself looking at me until it flew down on the floor and disappeared. Now the real question here is was this a unique moth or was it trying to teach me a lesson. Yes I admit I probably have a lot of time on my hands right now and yes I was watching a moth, but it was so intriguing I couldn't help myself. I guess when you take the time to slow down a little bit you end of noticing strange things.... I wonder where my moth is now. OK, I added a quote to my quote board because as I was watching it I thought of the part in You've Got Mail where she sees the butterfly flying in the subway that gets off to buy a hat. I just figured it out... the moth flew to my floor and did not fly up again... it was looking for a new pair of shoes and knew the exact place to find them....
"Once I read a story about a butterfly in the subway, and today, I saw one. It got on at 42nd, and off at 59th, where, I assume it was going to Bloomingdales to buy a hat that will turn out to be a mistake - as almost all hats are. " (You've Got Mail)

Gypsy or Practical... that is the question for today

I hear that when you get drunk you wake up the next morning wondering what stupid thing you did, what you might have said, and hoping that everything will just go on like normal and no one will remember what you did or said. Well.... this morning I felt like that a little bit without the getting drunk part. I woke up and wondered what have I done, what did I say and will it all go back to normal. Then it hit me, it will never be the same and I am OK with that, I think, the gypsy in me is so excited and thrilled to be where I am now, but the practical part in me is starting to freak out a little. I guess the biggest question now is what part of me will win the battle? I guess I write this blog as if I am writing in my journal or to those privileged enough to have access to my blog (no self-conceit in my bones.) I guess I should seize this opportunity and be grateful for it. The sky is the limit and no one can stop me (OK there are a few people that could) or maybe it is time for a reality check....... No not yet, I think I will climb back into my little world of fantasy and live my gypsy life until practicality knocks at my door.... I hope he is handsome..... oh sorry I got side tracked again. Yes I do want to get married... no question there, but in the mean time what fun and exciting adventure am I to have now and where will this adventure take place and whom will I meet on the way that will change my life? I don't know and that scares me and excites me at the same time.

My "Surprise" Farewell Party

Well I made it through my last day at work. It was hard especially when people started giving me hugs, but all good things must come to the end. At the end of the day after saying farewell to everyone I loaded my plants into my car and headed over to give them my badge (sniff, sniff), I had all ready given Jen (my replacement) my keys and this was adding salt to the wound. I walked into TLC 5 and oops there was everyone waiting for me.... well almost everyone. I guess I was suppose to go to TLC 4 first and then they were going to bring over to TLC 5 so I kinda ruined their plan, but I was still somewhat surprised!!! They said "Surprise" and so I acted surprised!!! Most every one of my employees was there, my co-workers, my boss, and thee boss. It was great. They had pizza, salad, and a cake for me. Lisa gave a little speech that made me cry and then handed me a card with a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble saying they thought I might have a little time on my hands now. They all know me well!! I am so excited to go to Barnes and Noble. It was lots of fun to eat and chat they are fabulous and I will miss them so much. I also received cards and presents from the kids and some of my employees. I felt so loved and that I had made a difference in some of their lives. So here I am the morning after writing this and getting teary eyed because it is over, but I know it is right. I know it is time to move on and try and make a difference in other lives!!

Dramatical Cheesy... the night before

Twas the night before the end of my job and all through the house not a creature was stirring not even a mouse..... Dad and Mom visiting, Kevin off to the temple, and me sitting at the computer contemplating my life.... when all of a sudden I heard such a noise the door open wide with a creek and bang (partly due to the broken spot from Kimi's and mine last water fight) and in walked a tall dark handsome man with hair the color of sand, eyes that sparkled, and a look of true love on his face... I turned at the sound of his voice and what to my wondering eye should appear but him kneeling at my side asking me that question of all....... (are you all waiting with anticipation......).... Do you have a job my dear "handsomest woman of my acquaintance"? And with tears in my eyes I said oh sir I do not, well in 12 hours I will not!! Oh what should I do with the rest of my life? The handsome man replied come away with me and we will oh so happy be...... I thought to myself the answer I may have found to my deep contemplations, so I turned to the knight in shining armor and said to him please.... WAIT where did he go, I looked to and fro .......... oh, I must have fallen asleep at the computer tonight because I have been staying up late reading my books and oh he is gone my dear handsome prince..... oh what shall I do the day after tomorrow with my job leaving me and my knight gone missing..... so I guess I will send it out to you all; if you have an idea for my contemplating brain (and my cheesy story)... I guess that is what happens the night before your whole life will change..... I will miss my kids and my divas from work, but I know something else is waiting for me in real life or a dream!! I hope my story makes you sigh, cry, or laugh... but remember twas the night before my job ended and the next chapter of my life began........

Some things never change.....

Some things never change no matter how old we are....

KaLisi, Chele, Ally, and I playing at the park in Boise

Summer Fun..

Well this last summer I had lots of adventures. In April I went to DC area to visit Derek and April and the family. It was lots of fun and I will post some pictures of it later (once I figure that out). I also spent some time with my fabtabulous old roomies Char and Lacy and had lots of fun. Lacy and I had a "grand adventure " to Montana.... stories stories will come; and I spent a week with Chele and the girls in Boise including seeing the Twin Falls Temple. I also spent lots of time "hanging out" with the most fabulous friends in Ammon. A lot of these same girls are the ones I went to Hawaii with last summer and I look forward to lots of grand adventures to come. I also walked a 5K on the 4th of July and hopefully next year I will run that same race.
This summer I also became an aunt for the 13, 14, and 15th time. All on the same day, how cool is that. Among my traveling adventures I have had lots of family fun and been very blessed. I will write more details of my adventures as time passes and especially as I am no longer have a job (by choice of course).

Mesa Falls Twin Falls Temple

My job.... for now...

So to back up a little... for the last four years I have been working at place called The Learning Center, a company that works with kids and adults with disabilities. I have made lots of friends and overall have enjoyed working there. I have learned a lot and have gained a greater appreciation for the simple things in life. These kids and adults have changed my life and I will miss them a great deal. My greatest teacher at TLC past away at the end of April and I miss him a great deal, but I realize how happy he is now and that is worth more than anything. He taught me to appreciate the simple things in life; to be grateful for the small accomplishments and to laugh at yourself. I miss this kid so much but I am so happy for him. I don't think I could have ever left my job with him there, but he left first so now it is ok to leave. I will miss many others of my co-workers and kids/adults but change is good, although hard at times. TLC will always hold a special place in my heart.... now if I can just get through Thursday without bawling my eyes out all will be good.

It has begun....

Well actually it began about twenty-fiveish years ago and now I have finally decided to start my own blog. It seems lately I have begun lots of new things so here I am beginning something new once again. The next few weeks will be very intersting in my life (although the last ones have been fun and exciting also) but now it is time to start over!!! If you don't all know I am quitting my job effective this Thursday. It seems strange to think I will not be working at TLC, but all good things must come to an end.
